Thunder Performers Shine at Vanderbilt University

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- The Trine men's track and field team opened the outdoor season with a successful performance in the Vanderbilt University Black and Gold Meet.

Highlighting the day was John Daniel's (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) performance in the Pole Vault. The junior placed first in the event, topping all performers with a vault of 14 feet, 7.25 inches. The Thunder had nine performances that placed among the top 10 competitors in the event. It was a strong showing for the team in a field largely made of up NCAA Division I and II performers.

Daniel also helped the Thunder to a second-place finish in the 4 x 100 M Relay. Daniel, Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind./Leo) and John Harris-Scott (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) combined for a time of 42.62 seconds. The performance topped all Division I entries in the race and was second only to Ohio Wesleyan's group.

Bourdo and Richardville also saw individual success elsewhere. Richardville had an impressive day with a fourth-place finish in the 100 M and a seventh-place finish in the 200 M. Bourdo placed third in the 200 M.

James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) and Justin Dostal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) each added seventh-place finishes. Gregory's performance came in the 110 M Hurdles, while Dostal earned his placing in the Long Jump.

Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) added an eighth-place finish in the 800 M.

Throwers Sam Gilly and Andrew Bunting had a strong day in the Hammer Throw, placing eighth and ninth respectively. Gilly threw a personal best distance of 159 feet, 3.75 inches. Bunting finished not too far behind at 155 feet. 

Austin Ganger turned in Trine's best long-distance performance with a 14th-place finish in the 3000 M.
