Thunder Place Second in DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind.-- The Trine men's track and field team placed second in the DePauw Invitational, held Saturday at Blackstock Stadium.

Thunder performers notched two first-place and four second-place finishes to highlight the team's efforts. Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind./Leo) paced a strong showing for the team in the 100-meter dash with a first-place finish. Justin Dostal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) won the High Jump. Both of Trine's first-place finishes came from freshmen.  The Thunder finished with 97.83 points as a team to finish between NCAA Division I-performer Valparaiso and fellow MIAA-member Calvin. Ten men's teams representing every level of collegiate competition competed in the meet.

Richardville's winning time in the 100-meter dash was 10.85 seconds. Four Trine runners earned points in the team standings in the event, which included three of the top five runners. Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) and John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) placed third and fourth respectively, while John Harris-Scott (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch) placed eighth.

Daniel, Bourdo, Harris-Scott and Richardville made up the 4-x-100-meter relay team that placed second. Bourdo and Richardville also had a hand in the 4-x-400-meter relay team that finished second. Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) also contributed to the 4-x-400 finish.

Bourdo added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, while Richardville placed fourth in the event.

Dostal jumped a personal-best height of six feet, four inches to win the high jump. Dostal also turned in a personal-best long jump of 20 feet, 11.75 inches to place third.

Jessie Dowell (Remington, Ind./Tri Junior-Senior) notched Trine's final second-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 165 feet, nine inches.

Daniel added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault.

Other highlights in field events included personal-bests for Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) and Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) in the hammer throw. The duo placed seventh and eighth respectively. Logan Lindsley (Battle Creek, Mich./Quincy) added a sixth-place finish in the long jump, while Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Leurs) placed eighth in the shot put.

Other highlights on the track included an eighth-place finish for Leopold in the 800-meter run and a personal-best time for James Gregory (Warsaw, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) in the 110-meter hurdles.

Trine will compete in the MIAA Jamboree, slated for Saturday, Apr. 11 at Alma College.
