Field Performances Lead Thunder at Conference Meet

ALBION, Mich.-- Three second-place performances in field events highlighted Trine's performance in day one of MIAA Field Day, held Thursday at Albion College. 

The Thunder took home three of the top five spots and four of the top eight in the shot put. Leading the way was Tyler Niehoff (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley), who placed second witha personal-best throw of 46 feet, 0.5 inches. Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Leurs) finished just behind in third-place. Derek Scott (Niles, Mich./Niles) placed fifth, while Sam Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill./St. Joseph-Ogden) placed eighth.

Jessie Dowell (Remington, Ind./Tri Junior-Senior) notched another second-place finish for Trine with his performance in the javelin throw. The freshman set a new personal-record with a throw of 174 feet, 6 inches. Gilly placed eighth and Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western) added a ninth-place finish.

John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) rounded out the second-place finishers for the Thunder. Daniel vaulted a height of 14 feet, 9 inches in the pole vault. He also qualified at second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash.

Trine also had three top-10 performances in the long jump, led by Logan Lindsley (Battle Creek, Mich./Quincy). The sophomore leapt a distance of 20 feet, 11.25 inches. Justin Dostal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) added a seventh-place finish, while Alex Hodges (Rochester Hills, Mich./Avondale) placed ninth.

Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) turned in a strong performance on the track in the 10K to place eighth. Schaaf's time of 32:56 was over a minute and a half better than the pervious-best by a Trine runner in the event this season.

Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind./Leo) ran the top qualifying time in the 100-meter dash. Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg), Richardville and Daniel ran the top three qualifying times in the 200-meter dash.

Trine is in second-place at Field Day, with 45 points thus far. Calvin leads overall with 70 points.

MIAA Field Day concludes tomorrow at Albion College.
