FREELAND, Mich.-- Four members of the Trine men's track and field team were named to the 2015 All-MIAA Men's Track and Field Team, released Thursday.
Senior Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg) was named the MIAA Most Valuable Track Athlete to headline the selections. Dakota Bagwell (Kokomo, Ind./Western), Patrick Richardville (Fort Wayne, Ind./Leo) and John Daniel (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) rounded out the Thunder selections to the all-conference team. The quartet of competitors had a hand in six first-place finishes, helping lead Trine to a second-place finish at MIAA Field Day- the team's best finish since joining the conference.
Bourdo picked up the second MIAA Most Valuable Track Athlete honor of his career, having also received the honor in 2013. Bourdo won the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash at MIAA Field Day. He also contributed to first-place finishes in the 4-x-100-meter relay and the 4-x-400-meter relay.
The senior became Trine's first-ever three-time champion in an event at MIAA Field Day with three career wins in the 400-meter dash. He is also one of two Trine athletes to be part of a first-place relay three times at the conference championship. Bourdo is a four-time All-MIAA performer and a four-time All-American (two outdoor).
Bagwell had one of the most impressive individual performances by anyone at Field Day, setting a new MIAA record in the hammer throw. The senior's throw of 184 feet, 3 inches obliterated the old conference-best mark by 17 feet. Bagwell became a two-time MIAA champion in the event and earned his second-career All-MIAA honors.
Richardville won the 100-meter dash and made up part of the winning 4-x-100-meter relay team in his first performance in MIAA Field Day. The 4-x-100 relay team finished just .02 seconds short of the MIAA record. The freshman also placed second in the 200-meter dash. The all-conference honor is the first of his collegiate career.
Daniel had a hand in the first-place 4-x-100-meter relay finish and saw success elsewhere on the track and in the field. The junior notched a second-place performance in the pole vault, placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and notched a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. He picked up the first All-MIAA honor of his career.
Field Day capped off the season for most of Trine's student-athletes. The Thunder will have several performers looking to wrap up National Championship appearances at last-chance meets in the coming weeks.
