Leopold Sets School Record to lead Thunder at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich.-- A school record highlighted the performance of the Trine men's track and field team on the final day of the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.

Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) set a new program-best mark of 1:55.80 in the 800-meter run to top his own school-record. The performance was good enough for first place in a field that included Division II and NAIA performers. The junior's time would rank 18th in the nation based on results submitted to TFRRS at the time of writing. Leopold has won the 800-meter in all three of his performances in the event this season.

The Thunder also saw success in the open portion of the event as Nicholas Zak (Saint John, Ind./Hanover Central) placed third. Zak's time of 1:57.77 came in his first-ever performance in the event. Ricardo Castillo (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) placed third in the open portion of the 800-meter run.

Zach Markley (Winamac, Ind./Winamac) ran a new season-best time in the championship of the 400-meter dash. Markley ran a time of 50.63 seconds to place seventh. Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) also saw success in winning the open portion of the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 50.91 seconds.

Trine runners also took the top three spots in the open 5,000-meter run. Robert Duke (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) won the race in a personal-best time of 15:47. Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind./West Noble) added a personal-best time to place second, while Kody Snyder (Burnettsville, Ind./Twin Lake) rounded out the top three.

Leopold, Markley, Bassett and Gregory Littlejohn (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) combined for a season-best time in the 4-x-400-meter relay. The quartet of runners notched a time of 3:29.61.

Logan Lindsley (Battle Creek, Mich./Quincy) fell just shy of a triple jump record with a jump of 41 feet, 9.25 inches. That fell just three inches shy of his own school-record. The performance was good enough for seventh overall and was the best among Division III competitiors.

Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Leurs) added the best Division III performance in the shot put. The senior threw a distance of 45 feet, 3.75 inches.
