Ganger, Gilly highlight Men's Performance at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio-- The performances of Austin Ganger and Sam Gilly highlighted the efforts Trine men's track and field competitors in Saturday's Dick Small Invitational.

Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind. / Mishawaka) ran a time of 33:08.09 to place second in the 10K. The efforts marked the first time the junior has competed in the event during the outdoor track season. Ganger's performance ranks 18th in the nation based on meet results submitted to TFRRS through this morning.

Gilly (St. Joseph, Ill. / St. Joseph-Ogden) placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 165 feet, 5 inches. The throw topped all Division III performers in the event by 12 feet. The effort is currently the 11th-best hammer throw performance in the nation.

Derek Scott (Niles, Mich. / Niles) added a fifth place finish in the shot put, coming away with a distance of 42 feet, 3.5 inches. Mitchell Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) placed eighth in the event, while adding a throw of 131 feet in the discus to place sixth.

The Trine men's track and field team officially opens the outdoor season Saturday, Apr. 2 at the Hanover Invitational. Events are slated to get underway at noon.
