Richardville, Dowell named MIAA Athletes of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Patrick Richardville and Jessie Dowell were named the MIAA Men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) earned MIAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while Dowell (Remington, Ind. / Tri Junior-Senior) was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week. The honor is the second of Richardville's collegiate career, while Dowell is being recognized for the first time. The two performers had a hand in winning five events to lead the Thunder to first place in Saturday's Hanover Invitational. Trine topped the rest of the field by 57 points to win the title.

Richardville won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams. The sophomore ran a time of 11.08 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. He won the 200-meter dash in 22.82 seconds. Richardville also contributed to the winning 4-x-100-meter and 4-x-400-meter relays.

Dowell won the javelin throw. The distance of the sophomore's throw was measured at 152 feet, 3 inches. It was his first victory in any event as a collegiate performer. Dowell also competed in the discus in the event, where he notched a throw of 119 feet, 1 inch.

The Trine men's track and field team returns to action Saturday, Apr. 9 at Taylor University's George Glass Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
