Thunder Performers Notch Top Division III marks at GINA Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich.-- Several Trine men's track and field performers turned in top Division III marks in their events in Friday's performance at the Hillsdale GINA Relays.

Nicholas Zak (Saint John, Ind. / Hanover Central) and Jacob Leopold (Ottawa Hills, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) took home the top two Division III efforts in the open 800-meter run event. Zak placed seventh overall as the top Division III competitior with a personal-best time of 1:55.31 seconds. Leopold's time was clocked at 1:57.28, the second-best time by a performer from the division.

Thunder throwers turned in the best three efforts by Division III student-athletes in the shot put. Courtney Mitchell (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Bishop Luers) turned in the best performance, placing 11th overall with a throw of 46 feet, 0.75 inches. Derek Scott (Niles, Mich. / Niles) and Jessie Dowell (Remington, Ind. / Tri Junior-Senior) finished second and third respectively among D3 performers.

Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) added the best Division III effort in the hammer throw with a toss of 151 feet, 2 inches. Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) was the second-best performer in Division III, coming away with a throw of 141 feet, 9 inches.
