Thunder Men Conclude Performance at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich.-- The Trine men's track and field team wrapped up its performance in the Hillsdale GINA Relays Saturday.

Jessie Dowell (Remington, Ind. / Tri Junior-Senior) notched the best performance of the day for the Thunder. The sophomore placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 162 feet, 9 inches. Dowell was the best NCAA Division III performer in the event. Zach DeMeester (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) added a personal-best throw of 141 feet, 8 inches in the event.

Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich./ Monroe) notched the best discus throw by a Division III student-athlete in the meet. Martin's throw was measured at 135 feet, 8 inches. Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) added a throw of 121 feet, 7 inches.

Elsewhere in field events, Jacob Payne (LaPorte, Ind. / Laporte) cleared a height of 13 feet, 9.25 inches in the pole vault. Ryan Haarer (Goshen, Ind. / Northridge) added a vault of 13 feet, 3.50 inches.

On the track, Jonathan Phillips (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer Junior-Senior) made a strong debut in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:11.32. Cody Mart (Channahon, Ill. / Minooka Community) added a personal-record 4:17.93 to beat his previous personal-best by 19 seconds.

Trine will compete in MIAA Field Day, which serves as the conference's outdoor track and field championship. Events begin Thursday, May 5 at Olivet College.
