Sprints, Barnett's Jump Highlight Performance at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Trine men's track and field performers notched one first-place finish in field events and saw success in sprinting events on day two of the University of Findlay Oiler Open.

Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) won the long jump to account for the lone first-place finish of the day for the Thunder in a field made up of NCAA Division II and NAIA performers. The sophomore matched his personal record with a jump of 22 feet, 3.75 inches to beat his closest competitor by seven inches. Eric Townsend (Greenwood, Ind. / Roncalli) added a fifth-place finish in the event.

Trine performers also saw success in sprinting events, led by Jasper Bassett's (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) second-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Bassett notched a time of 50.54 seconds. He turned in one of two sub 51-second times run at the event.

Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) turned in strong efforts in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. The junior placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.09. He qualified sixth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash, before turning on the jets to move up to fourth in the finals with a time of 7.12.

Bassett and Richardville made up half of the 4-x-400-meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 3:30.22. They teamed with Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) and Mathew Bollan (Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola) for the effort.

Bollan also saw individual success in reached the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, where he ran a time of 9.52 to place seventh.

Gregory Littlejohn (LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte) added a third-place finish in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.92.

Zach DeMeester (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) notched a ninth-place finish in his first collegiate performance in the shot put. He came away with a toss of 41 feet, 10.5 inches. Yesterday, Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) added a seventh-place finish in the weight throw.

Trine returns to competition Saturday, Jan. 21 when the team hosts the Keith Turner Alumni Invitational. All alumni are invited to register and participate. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
