Bollan's School Record Highlights Taylor Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. -- Trine men's track and field performers combined to set one school-record and notch three first-place finishes in the Taylor Invitational, held Saturday at Kelser Fieldhouse.

Mat Bollan (Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola) set a new school-record in the 60-meter hurdles to highlight the team's performance in the meet. Bollan ran a time of 8.50 seconds to beat Russell Dill's old school mark of 8.57 seconds that had stood since 2008. The performance was good enough for fourth place. Bollan also placed fourth in the high jump, clearing a personal-best height of 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches).

Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) accounted for the team's first-place finish on the track, taking the top spot in the 400-meter dash. Bassett's winning time was 50.04 seconds, more than one second better than the second-place finisher. The time was a season-best for the sophomore.

In field events, Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) won the long jump. The sophomore came away with a long jump of 6.90 meters (22 feet, 2.75 inches). It was Barnett's fifth win in the long jump this year.

Andrew Bunting (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) rounded out the first-place finishes with his effort in the weight throw. Bunting unleashed a throw of 16.23 meters (53 feet, 3 inches) to win by half a meter. Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) added a fourth-place finish in the event with a throw of 15.62 meters (51 feet, 3 inches).

Ryan Haarer (Goshen, Ind. / Northridge) highlighted the efforts elsewhere in field events with a personal-best performance in the pole vault. Haarer vaulted 4.42 meters (14 feet, 6 inches) to set a new personal-record for the second straight meet. Haarer's vault is the best in the MIAA this year. He placed fifth in the event.

Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) added a personal-best in the shot put, placing sixth. Gerber notched a throw of 13.84 meters (45 feet, 5 inches).

Elsewhere on the track, Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) was the only Division III competitor to advance to the finals of the 60-meter dash. The junior placed sixth with a time of 7.10 seconds.

Jacob Leopold (Ottawa, Ohio / Ottawa-Glandorf) added a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in1:59.58. Jonathan Phillips (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer) also notched a personal-best in the Mile with a time of 4:28.91. He placed fourth.

The Trine men's track and field team will look to defend its MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Saturday, Feb. 25 at Calvin College. Events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
