Thunder Compete in Polar Bear Invitational

MARION, Ind. --The Trine men's track and field team competed in the Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invitational Saturday.

Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) ran a 22.33 second time in the 200-meter dash to highlight the efforts of the Thunder on the track. Barnett's time is ranked 14th in the nation and leads the MIAA at the time of writing. His performance was good enough for eighth overall in a field consisting mostly of NAIA performers.

Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) and David Schaaf (Kokomo, Ind. / Northwestern) notched fourth-place finishes for Trine's highest-placing efforts on the day. Bassett ran a time of 1:58.81 in the 800-meter run. Schaaf set a personal-best in the javelin throw with a toss of 43.16 meters (141 feet, 7 inches). Schaaf also set a personal best in the discus throw.

The 4-x-400-meter relay team also notched a fourth-place finish. Barnett, Bassett, Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) and Mat Bollan (Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola) combined on a time of 3:29.48.

Bollan notched a well-rounded performance individually, adding sixth-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. He also placed seventh in the javelin throw.

The team's distance efforts were paced by Robert Duke (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern), who placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run. Jonathan Phillips (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer) added a seventh-place finish, while Jordan Zamarron (Ionia, Mich. / Ionia) placed eighth with a personal-best time.

Adrien Howard (Marion, Ind. / Marion) added a pair of top-10 finishes in his hometown. He placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run and notched a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter run.

James Washington (Michigan City, Ind. / Michigan City) added a career-best 11.27-second time in the 100-meter dash.
