FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Nick Gerber has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) placed in two events to lead the Thunder to a third-place finish at the Indiana Division III Championship. The sophomore won the hammer throw, unleashing a throw of 52.31 meters (171 feet, 7 inches) to set a new career-best. He also placed seventh in the shot put with a toss of 13.44 meters (44 feet, 1.25 inches). The efforts earned Gerber Most Valuable Field Athlete honors at the meet. He earned MIAA weekly honors for the first time in his career.

The performances over the weekend moved Gerber into the top spot in the MIAA in the hammer throw. He is ranked 36th in the nation in the event. Gerber is also ranked second in the conference in the shot put and fifth in the discus throw. During the Indoor season, Gerber finished third at the conference championship meet in the weight throw and shot put.
