UPLAND, Ind. -- Members of the Trine men's track and field team competed in the Indiana Little State Championships at Taylor University this weekend.
Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) led the efforts of the Thunder with a third-place finish in the long jump. The sophomore narrowly missed a school record in leaping 7.10 meters (23 feet, 3.5 inches). That mark is tied for the 17th-best in NCAA Division III.
Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) qualified for the 400-meter dash finals, but did not competed in the finals. The sophomore ran a time of 50.04 seconds, good enough for the fifth-best qualifying time.
Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash, but did not run in the finals. His time of 11.42 was the seventh-best qualifying time. He also ran a time of 22.77 in the 200-meter dash.
Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) added a personal-best performance to place eighth in the discus. His new career-mark was set at 42.88 meters (140 feet, 8 inches). He also placed eighth in the hammer throw. Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) added a ninth-place performance in the hammer throw.
The Indiana Little States Championship mostly consists of performers from NAIA and NCAA Division II institutions. Trie was one of just two NCAA Division III teams to send performers to the meet.

Trine gets its final tuneup prior to MIAA Field Day when the Thunder compete in the Hillsdale GINA Relays Apr. 27-29.
