Barnett Sets School Record at GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Trine's Jeffery Barnett set a school record in the long jump as part of the efforts of several Thunder performers in the GVSU 2nd to Last Chance Meet.

Barnett (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont-Ross) set a program mark for the second consecutive week with a jump of 7.18 meters (23 feet, 6.75 inches). The sophomore remains in the hunt for a bid to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. He is ranked 24th in the nation in the event after finishing as the national runner-up during the Indoor season. Barnett placed fifth in today's meet.

Patrick Richardville (Leo, Ind. / Leo) ran a time of 21.96 seconds to place fifth in the 200-meter dash. Richardville is still ranked 19th in the nation in the event, putting him in line for his first national championship appearance. Richardville also ran a time of 10.88 seconds to place third in the finals of the 100-meter dash. 

Richardville, Barnett, Jacob Root (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) and Nick Hayes (Merrillville, Ind. / Merrillville) combined on a time of 42.04 seconds in the 4-x-100-meter relay. The team placed second. 

Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind. / DeKalb) ran a season-best time of 48.74 seconds in the 400-meter dash. He placed sixth. Bassett also placed 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.76 seconds. 

Nick Gerber (Goshen, Ind. / Goshen) placed 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.30 meters (165 feet). Mitch Martin (Monroe, Mich. / Monroe) added a throw of 45.43 meters (149 feet).

Members of the Trine men's track and field team will continue to compete in last-chance meets over the next eight days in hopes of earning or solidifying berths in the national meet. The national championships will be held May 25-27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
