Trine Men Begin Indoor Season at Indianapolis Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.  --  The Trine University men's track & field team began the indoor season at the unscored University of Indianapolis Opener at the UIndy Athletics and Recreation Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

Austin Miller led the way for the Thunder in the running events with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 55.67 seconds.  Jasper Bassett also posted a top-five finish in the 800-meter run after turning in a mark of 2:03.53.

Other top running performances included a seventh-place showing by Jacob Root in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.29 seconds.  Eric Townsend also competed in the event and placed three spots back of Root in 10th place with a time of 23.46 seconds.

The duo of Brandon Sill and Josh McCallum both ran in the mile and finished in eighth and 10th place.  Sill ran a time of 4:59.19 and McCallum crossed the finish line in a time of 5:03.15.

Townsend, Bassett, Noah McClellan and Root combined to finish fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with an overall time of 3:43.70.

In the field events, the top finishes of the day were a pair of third-place finishes in the weight throw and the pole vault.

Nick Gerber placed third overall in the weight throw following a toss of 52' 7.25".  The other third-place finish for the Thunder was turned in by Ryan Haarer in the pole vault who had a best effort of 14' 5.5".

Nicholas Kane joined Gerber as a competitor in the weight throw and was ninth after a best attempt of 43' 1.5".  In addition, Kane also competed in the shot put and recorded his second top-10 finish in ninth place after a throw of 44' 1.5".

Trine will next compete at the Circle Logistics Warrior Invite hosted by Indiana Tech next Saturday, Dec. 8 in Fort Wayne, Ind.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
