Men's Track & Field Competes at Indiana Tech Aaron Porter Invite

FORT WAYNE, IND.  --  Senior Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Ross) posted the top overall mark in the long jump to lead the Trine University men's track & field team at the unscored Circle Logistics Aaron Porter Invite hosted by Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Barnett placed first in the long jump after a leap of 23' 9.50" (7.25 meters) which also currently ranks as the third best mark in NCAA Division III so far in the early season.  

Other top finishes in the field events for the men included a runner-up effort by senior Nicholas Gerber (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) in the wieght throw thanks to a best toss of 53' 5.75" (16.30 meters).

Sophomore Nicolas Kane (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) placed fourth in the shot put after a throw of 45' 2.50" (13.78 meters) and senior Ryan Haarer (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) rounded out the top performances in the field events with a third-place showing in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a height of 14' 9.00" (4.50 meters).

In the running events, the top finisher was senior Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.91 seconds and was good enough for 10th place.

The other top performer was a 14th-place finish by junior Jacob Root (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.03 seconds.

The men's indoor track & field team will be idle until January when it hosts the Sean Brady/Keith Turner Alumni Open on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Angola.  The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
