Bassett, Barnett and Haarer Earn All-MIAA Honors

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Three members of the Trine University men's indoor track & field team earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors for their individual efforts this past weekend at the conference championships.

As a team, the Thunder finished as runners-up at the 2019 MIAA Indoor Championships with seniors Jeffery Barnett (Fremont, Ohio/Ross), Jasper Bassett (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Ryan Haarer (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) all capturing individual event titles.

Barnett became a three-time individual MIAA champion in the long jump with his winning leap of 24' 1.75" this past weekend and set a MIAA indoor record.  He also became a three-time All-MIAA award winner in the event with the win.  His distance currently ranks as the third farthest recorded in NCAA Division III so far this season.  

Bassett finished as an individual champion in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.10 seconds.  He also earns indoor All-Conference accolades for the first time in his career.

Haarer captured the pole vault by clearing the bar in a winning height of 14' 3.25".  He finished ahead of teammate and fellow senior Jacob Payne(LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) by four inches in the event.  It also marks Haarer's first Indoor All-Conference award in the pole vault.

Trine is scheduled to compete in the Pointer Last Chance Meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next Saturday, Mar. 2 in Stevens Point, Wis.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. EST.
