Zak Earns Google Cloud Academic All-American Honors

AUSTIN, TEXAS  --  Trine University senior Nicholas Zak (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) has been named Google Cloud Track & Field/Cross Country Second-Team Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his efforts both in the classroom and on the track.

Zak advanced to the Academic All-American ballot after earning first-team Academic All-District honors earlier this year.  

Zak graduated from Trine this past spring with a degree in civil engineering and was one of the top runners on the men's cross country and track teams.  During the track season, Zak improved upon his own mile-run school record on multiple occasions with the final record being set at the Grand Valley (Mich.) State "Big Meet" in early February with a time of 4:17.50.  He later helped play a pivotal role in the Thunder finishing as runners-up at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships with a second-place finish in the mile (4:24.89).  He also posted a fourth-place effort in the 800-meter run (1:59.37).  Following the indoor season, Zak went on to garner All-Region honors by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

During the outdoor track season, Zak continued to make an impact and finished as an individual conference champion in the 1500-meter run (4:00.79) and also advanced to the finals of the 800-meter run where he placed third with a mark of 1:54.49.  As a an event champion, Zak earned All-MIAA honors.  As a team, the Thunder finished in second place for the third year in a row at the MIAA Outdoor Championship.
