Men's Track & Field Finish Second at Snow Day Invitational

NAPERVILLE, ILL  --  The Trine University men's track & field team captured four individual events and finished second in the team standings at the Snow Day Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College in Naperville, Ill.

Trine ended the meet with 129 team points to finish as the runners up.  Host school North Central finished first with 213 points and Grace College was third at 125 points.

The Thunder captured a pair of field events with senior Mitchell Martin (Bowling Green, Ohio) winning the weight throw after a best toss of 56' 5.75" and freshman Ben Williams (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) had the winning mark in the long jump thanks to a leap of 22' 5.75."

Sophomore Noah McClellan (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) also had a top finish for Trine in the triple jump of third place following a best effort of 41' 8.00."  

Trine had a strong day on the track, highlighted by a pair of victories by freshman Jake Gladieux (Oregon, Ohio/Whitmer) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.58 seconds) and sophomore Josh Davis (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) had the top mark of 7.03 seconds in the 60-meter dash.  Junior Ty Hoover (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes) also qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles alongside Gladieux and turned in a time of 9.78 seconds to place eighth overall.  Williams and Camden Doyle both recorded top-10 times in the 60-meter dash with Williams placing fourth in a time of 7.15 seconds and Doyle was seventh at 7.22 seconds.

The men had a pair of fifth place finishes in both the 5000-meter run by junior Harrison Korkos (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) in a time of 15:55.66 and by freshman Kyran Pearson (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) in the 400-meter dash by crossing the finish line in a time of 52.32 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Trine took fourth through eight places with senior Jacob Root (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) having the fastest time for Trine of 22.82 seconds.  In addition, Williams took fifth (22.93 seconds), Gladieux was sixth (23.01 seconds), Davis had the seventh-quickest time (23.11 seconds) and Pearson was eighth (23.36 seconds).

Junior Jack Beakas (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) was one of three Trine runners to finish in the top 10 in the 3000-meter run and was fifth overall after clipping the tape in a time of 8:42.89.  Fellow junior Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) finished a spot back in sixth place after running a time of 8;45.04 and senior Vilis Vauskalns (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove) was seventh in a time of 8:51.07.

The final top showing came in the 4x400-meter relay which saw the team of Gladieux, Williams, Pearson and Root finish second overall in the event after recording a combined time of 3:31.24.

The men's track & field team will next compete in the Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State (Mich.) University on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Allendale, Mich.  The day is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
