ALLENDALE, MICH. -- Members of the Trine University men's indoor track team competed in the Grand Valley State (Mich.) University Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.
Senior Vilis Vuskalns (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove) and juniors Jack Beakas (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and Derek Miller (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview) all competed in the 5000-meter run and two finished in the top-10 in their respective heat. Vuskalns finished sixth overall among a field composed of NCAA Division I, II and NAIA opopnents with a time of 14:47.27. His time broke the Trine indoor record by three one-hundreths of a second which was previously held by Jonathan Phillips who set the mark last year at the same meet.
Beakas finished just behind Vuskalns in seventh place after crossing the finish line in a time of 14:48.99 and Miller was 24th after running a time of 15:12.88.
Trine will compete in the DePauw University Invitational tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 15) in Greencastle, Ind. The first events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
