Thunder Finish Second at DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, IND.  --  Freshman Jake Gladieux (Oregon, Ohio/Whitmer) set a Trine indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles to help the Trine University men's indoor track & field team finish as runner-up at the DePauw University Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.

The Thunder posted a team score of 98.5 points to finish second of 17 teams.  Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology took the top overall team honors with 132 points and host school DePauw was third with 87 points.

Trine had two event winners on the track highlighted by Gladieux's record-setting effort in the 60-meter hurdles.  Gladieux recorded time of 8.33 seconds to improve the previous school mark by three one-hundreths of a second (8.36 seconds) to win the event.

The other event win was turned in by sophomore Josh Davis (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights) in the 60-meter dash after posting the top mark of 6.99 seconds.  Camden Doyle also qualified for the finals in the event and placed fourth overall with a time of 7.19 seconds.

In the mile, junior Neil O'Brien (Whiteland, Ind./Roncalli) finished second after crossing the finish line in a time of 4:19.58 and was followed by fellow junior Levi Neuzerling (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) who also posted a top-10 mark of 4:34.58 which was good enough for eighth place.

Three Trine runners finished in the top-eight in the 5000-meter run led by junior Harrison Korkos (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) who ran a time of 15:55.75 to place fourth overall.  Junior Alexander Amaro (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and sophomore William Huffman (Greenfield, Ind./Eastern Hancock) finished fifth and sixth behind Korkos with marks of 15:57.59 and 16:05.80, respectively.

Trine also had a pair of runners place in the top-eight in the 400-meter dash with freshman Kyran Pearson (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) recording the fifth quickest time of 53.16 seconds and was followed by freshman William Thonn (Rochester, Ind./Rochester) who finished seven after running a time of 53.76 seconds.

Completing the list of top efforts in the running events was recorded by freshman Skyler Schrope (Charlottesville, Ind./Eastern Hancock) who was fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.28.

Senior Mitchell Martin (Bowling Green, Ohio) headlined the field events with a win in the weight throw event and bested a field of 35 competitors with a best distance of 54' 2.50."  Two others placed in the top-10 in junior Nicolas Kane (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and sophomore Matthew Kuess (Fort Recovery, Ohio/Fort Recovery).  Kane was sixth overall following a toss of 48' 10.00" and Kuess was 10th in a distance of 44' 10.25."

Kane and Kuess also competed in the shot put with Kane placing in a tie for fourth with a mark of 45' 2.50 and Kuess was 10th at 41' 0.25."  In addition, senior Skyler Dunckley (Cedar, Mich./Traverse City West) finished inbetween Kane and Kuess in sixth place after an effort of 44' 9.00."

In the long jump, freshman Ben Williams (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) was runner-up in the event with a leap of 20' 5.00."  Fellow freshman Omar Campbell (Muncie, Ind./Muncie Central) also competed and placed in a tie for 10th at 18' 6.50."

Junior Alex Sliter (Bryan, Ohio/Fairview) placed in the top-five in the pole vault at a height of 12' 9.50" to round out the top performances for Trine.

Up next for Trine will be the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championship which will be hosted by Trine on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.  The first events are scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
