Trine Turns in Top Times in Multiple Events at the Steemer Showcase

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University men's track and field team competed at Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon for the Steemer Showcase.

The Thunder brought home a pair of event victories in short distance races, including Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] in the 60-meter hurdles and Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights] in the 60-meter dash.

Gladieux tied his own school record with a 8.19-second race in the hurdles and also went on to finish third in the 200-meter run with a season-best time of 49.71 seconds. Davis was a winner in the 60-meter dash at 7.04 seconds with William Thonn [Rochester, Ind. / Rochester] close behind in third at 7.10 seconds.

Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] was just four-tenths of a second off the school record in the 200-meter dash. He would place third with a time of 22.73 seconds. The junior was also the top Trine finisher in the long jump in seventh with a score of 6.69 meters (21' 11.5").

A season-best time was also accumulated by Aidan Lapp [South Bend, Ind. / Riley] in the mile run. The junior completed the event in eighth with a time of 4:28.92.

Theodore Samra [Lansing, Mich. / DeWitt] continued to improve upon his personal best scores in the shot put and weight throw events. Samra placed second in the shot put at 14.79 meters (48' 6.25") and fourth in the weight throw with a hurl of 16.15 meters (53' 0").

Other top performers in field events included Eirik Eggen [Brownsburg, Ind. / Brownsburg] in the triple jump and Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru] in the high jump. Eggen recorded a score of 12.24 meters (40' 2") and Spohn at 1.88 meters (6' 2") to both place eighth in their respective events.

Next weekend, Trine track and field will compete in the Windy City Rumble hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday, February 5.
