Thunder Men Display Dominance at Indiana DIII Championships

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – At the Indiana DIII Championships, the Trine University men's track and field program won the event with 187.5 points, a wide margin over second place Wabash College at 139.5.

Trine had three event wins in a loaded field on Saturday. The first of which came in the 4x100 meter relay, where Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights], Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer], Danny Vinson [Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs] and Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru] scored a time of 41.83 seconds, just missing the school record. The Thunder also had Spohn win the 110-meter hurdles (15.20 seconds) and Noah McClellan [Schererville, Ind. / Lake Central] claim victory in the javelin (52.26 meters / 171' 5.00").

Trine had second and third-place finishes in three separate events, with Davis (10.89 seconds) and Vinson (10.93) in the 100-meter dash, Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] (22.73 seconds) and Davis (22.82 seconds) in the 200-meter dash as well as Noah Weslock [Howell, Mich. / Howell] (31:43.39) and Nikolas Pensyl [Westfield, Ind. / Westfield] (33:58.46) in the 10000-meter run.

There were also a pair of runner-up finishes in field events, including McClellan's 12.57-meter (41' 3.00") triple jump and Jacob Barkey [Waterloo, Ind. / DeKalb] scoring a 47.68-meter (156' 5.00") hammer throw.

Fourth-place finishes were accumulated by six different student-athletes. Holden Martin [Indianapolis, Ind. / Scecina Memorial] ran a 1:59.71 in the 800-meter run, while Noah Acker [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] went 15:11.98 in the 5000. Austin Smith [Jackson, Mich. / Napoleon] was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:20.19. In field events, Ethan Spahr [Osseo, Mich. / Pittsford] was fourth in the high jump (1.79 meters / 5' 10.5"), with Blake Lude [Auburn, Ind. / Dekalb] (3.95 meters / 12' 11.5") in the pole vault and Alexander Lewis [LaPorte, Ind. / LaPorte] (13.93 meters / 45' 8.50") in the shot put.

Other results saw Aidan Lapp [South Bend, Ind. / Riley] finish fifth in the 1500-meter (4:07.18) and the 4x400 meter relay squad of Dominick Giuditta [Machester, Pa. / Northeastern], Evan Selby [Lake Villa, Ill. / Lake Villa], Ty Hoover [Monticello, Ind. / Twin Lakes] and Blane Johnson [Allegan, Mich. / Allegan Senior] score a fifth-place finish as well at 3:38.84.

Travis Dowling's [Swayzee, Ind. / Oak Hill] 39.31-meter (129' 0.00") discus throw was good for sixth and Guiditta (52.70 seconds) and Hoover (1:03.90) were eighth in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles.

The Little State Championships take place on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 for the team's next event.
