Little State Championships See Trine Finish Sixth

MARIAN, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the Little State Championships on Saturday and placed sixth overall with 67 points. Marian University were the victors with a total of 164 points.

The Thunder were especially competitive in short distance events. Danny Vinson [Berrien Springs, Mich. / Berrien Springs] and Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights] were back-to-back in sixth and seventh in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.77 and 10.78 seconds. Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] held seventh-place in the 200-meter dash at 21.88 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay team was second overall with a time of 41.69 seconds, knocking on the door of a school record.

In middle-distance, Joseph Packard [Kokomo, Ind. / Western] was a fourth-place finisher in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:22.86 and Holden Martin [Indianapolis, Ind. / Scecina Memorial] seventh in the 1500-meter run at 4:03.29.

Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru] led a group of three scorers in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.72 seconds, good for second spot. Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] was behind him in fourth (14.97 seconds) and Evan Selby [Lake Villa, Ill. / Lake Villa] eighth (15.76 seconds).

Trine saw points in three different field events Saturday as well. Spohn finished third in the high jump (2.00 meters / 6' 6.75") to highlight the afternoon. Williams scored a sixth-place finish in the long jump while Ethan Spahr [Osseo, Mich. / Pittsford] was seventh. They had scores of 6.62 meters (21' 8.50") and 6.49 meters (21' 3.50"). Lastly, Theodore Samra [Lansing, Mich. / DeWitt] was fifth in the hammer throw at 51.96 meters (170' 5.75) and Jacob Barkey [Waterloo, Ind. / DeKalb] was eighth at 49.43 meters (162' 2.00").

The Thunder men will be in action on Friday, April 29 for the Lancer Invitational at Grace College for their next meet.
