Thunder Top the Field in Mrs. G Invitational

ANGOLA, Ind. – Angola, Indiana played host to the Mrs. G Invitational on Saturday afternoon inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC). The Trine University men's track and field team were the team champions of the event by gathering 141 points. Baldwin Wallace University was second at 90 points.

Event victories came from William Thonn and Theodore Samra. Thonn was victorious in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04 seconds while Samra won the shot put with a toss of 15.20 meters (49' 10.5"). Samra also had the best score in the weight throw for the Thunder, a second-place 17.00-meter (55' 9.25") toss.

Joining Samra with a second-place finish are Greysen Spohn and Nathan Leap. Spohn went 22.73 in the 200-meter dash to place runner-up and Leap reached a height of 4.00 meters (13' 1.50") in the pole vault. The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Blane Johnson, Philip Nemechek, Jake Gladieux and Tyler Hartleroad was second as well with a time of 3:30.83.

Third-place finishers included Holden Martin in the mile run and Jacob Myers in the 3000-meter run. Martin completed the event in 4:27.77, while Myers had a time of 9:14.27 in his heat.

Three student-athletes in field events finished fourth and fifth in their events. Ethan Spahr was fourth in the long jump at 6.43 meters (21' 1.25"). Coming in fifth for Trine were Justin Ackerman in the high jump (1.85 meters / 6' 0.75") and Andrew Cogswell in the triple jump (11.09 meters / 36' 4.75").

In the 800-meter run, Aidan Lapp was the best finishing racer for the Thunder with a time of 2:02.80. To go with his impressive 4x400-meter relay finish, Johnson was also eighth in the 400-meter run at 53.48 seconds.

On Saturday, February 11, the team will take part in the Midwest Elite Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
