Thunder Track and Field Send Seven to Ohio Northern in Last Chance Meet

ADA, Ohio – In the team's final opportunity to attempt to qualify for the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships, The Trine University men's and women's track and field programs sent several top student-athletes to the Polar Bear Final Qualifier, hosted by Ohio Northern University.

Theodore Samra hit a new personal-best mark in the weight throw at 17.99 meters (59' 0.25"). His previous high was 17.77 meters (58' 3.75") and he breaks the school record in the event set in 2013. He placed second overall while teammate Jacob Barkey was tenth at 15.90 meters (52' 2.00"). Samra also took part in the shot put and fouled on all three attempts.

Holden Martin ran a time of 4:31.77 in the mile run for Trine and finished third out of collegiate competitors (fourth overall). Philip Nemechek placed ninth in the 800-meter run at 1:59.14.

Madelyn Summers was sent to Ada, Ohio to compete on the women's side in the weight throw and shot put. The senior went 14.29 meters (46' 11.00") in the weight throw to place fourth overall and 12.15 meters (39' 10.00") in the shot put, good for third. Her best throw in the shot put just missed a career-best. In the pole vault, Morgan Moslow and Avery Boyce each failed to reach the minimum height of 3.30 meters (10' 10.00").

The field for the 2023 NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships will be unveiled on www.ncaa.com on Sunday, March 5 at 7 p.m.
