Trine Men Seventh at Little State Championships

MARION, Ind. – At the Little State Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University, the Trine University men's track and field team secured a two-day finish of seventh out of 15 teams. Indiana Tech were the recipients of the team award.

Field results entered late Thursday night saw five top-10 finishing positions. The hammer throw event had two scoring members for the team, including Theodore Samra in sixth (51.16 meters / 167' 10.00") and Jacob Barkey in eighth (48.79 meters / 160' 1.00"). Greysen Spohn also led field events on Thursday with a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.85 meters / 6' 0.75"). Travis Dowling was seventh in the discus (45.27 meters / 148' 6.00") and Nathan Leap tenth in the pole vault (4.10 meters / 13' 5.50") to wrap up Thursday field scores.

On Friday, the Thunder had a variety of point scorers in most events that took place. Evan Selby registered a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles at 55.50 seconds and Aidan Lapp did the same in the 3000-meter steeplechase event (9:50.79). Also securing a top eight finish in the steeplechase event was Austin Smith in eighth (10:07.40).

Tyler Hartleroad was fifth overall in the 1500-meter run at 3:58.36 and Zach Brickler crossed the finish line fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:01.81. Also inside the top-eight for the team were Eirik Eggen with a sixth-place triple jump (11.79 meters / 38'8.25"), Samra with a seventh-place shot put (14.84 meters / 48' 8.25"), Yosef Solomon with a seventh-place 10,000-meter run (32:43.31) and Ethan Spahr with an eighth-place javelin throw (43.48 meters / 142' 8.00").

Other top finishers for Trine in events were Philip Nemechek, who scored a 12th-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:56.03), Spohn with a 17th-place 200-meter run (22.76 seconds) and Aaron Pike, who was 29th in the 400-meter run (51.79 seconds).

The next event on the schedule for the Thunder is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Championships on May 4-5 at Olivet College.
