Trine Ties for Sixth at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Trine University men's track and field team traveled to Wittenberg University on Saturday to compete in the Steemer Showcase. The Thunder were in a tie for sixth overall but tied for third out of NCAA DIII institutions.

Senior Jake Gladieux had a pair of quality performances in the 200- and 400-meter events. Gladieux tied his own school record mark in the 200-meter dash at 22.16 seconds (sixth). He was also fourth in the 400-meter run at 48.76. That mark is closing in on the school record and is a new personal best.

Other top-five finishers for Trine included senior Greysen Spohn and freshman Zion Jackson. Spohn and Jackson both took part in the 60-meter hurdles, where Spohn was second at 8.20 seconds and Jackson fifth at 8.51 seconds. Spohn also tied for fourth in the high jump with a best leap of 1.92 meters (6' 3.50") and Jackson tallied a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 6.72 meters (22' 0.75").

In distance events, sophomore Drew Sillaway was 17th in the 3000-meter run at 8:41.09 in his first career track and field competition. In the 5000-meter run, junior Yosef Solomon led the team with a 19th-place spot (16:03.03). To highlight the middle distance events, junior Philip Nemechek was seventh in the 800-meter run at 1:57 and sophomore Lucas Tutrow 12th in the mile run with a time of 4:26.69.  

The pole vault saw junior Nathan Leap tie for sixth overall with a best score of 4.05 meters (13' 3.50"). Other top field event scores for Trine include senior Kimball Hughes who was ninth in the shot put (14.21 meters / 46' 7.50") and 11th in the weight throw (15.05 meters / 49' 4.50") and freshman Aiden Verhey who was 11th in the triple jump (11.34 meters / 37' 2.50").

Last but not least, freshman Jayjouir Roberts secured a 17th-place finish in the 60-meter dash at 7.18 seconds. He had the top time among qualifiers at 7.14 seconds.

The next event for the Trine men's track and field team will be the Mrs. G Alumni Invitational at home on Friday, February 2.
