Trine Drops Five Setter Against Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA.  --  The Trine University men's volleyball team fell on the losing end of a 3-2 decision against Wilson (Pa.) College in non-conference action in Chambersburg, Pa.

After dropping the first set, 25-17, the Thunder (4-15) then won the next two games, 25-21 and 25-18, to take a 2-1 match lead.  Wilson (4-4) stayed alive in the match by winning capturing the fourth set to even the overall score at two games apiece and force a fifth and deciding game.

In the fifth set, the Phoenix edged out the Thunder by a final of 15-13 to take the overall match victory by a final of 3-2.

Offensively, Trine had three players finish in double figures in kills with freshman Kyle Dixon (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) leading the way with 19 kills.  Freshman Eric Santiago-Morales (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Glen Ridge) was second with 12 kills and freshman Jackson Condrey (Spokane, Wash./Ferris) rounded out the leaders with 11 kills.

As a team, the Thunder recorded 51 assists with junior Hunter Monday (Beech Grove, Ind./Lutheran) tallying 44 of those assists. 

The trio of Monday, Santiago-Garcia and Condrey each recorded a pair of service aces to lead the team.

Trine also had multiple players have double-digit totals in digs with freshman Blake Grosse (Belleville, Ill./Belleville Township West) having a team-high 16 digs.  Dixon was the other Thunder player in double figures in digs with 10.

Freshman Dan Boren (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) led all players in total blocks with four (one solo and three assists).  Condrey and freshman Luke Maier (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty) both had a pair of blocks with Condrey posting two block assists, while Maier had a solo and assisted block.

Trine will return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, Mar. 6) with a non-conference matchup against Elizabethtown (Pa.) College.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
