Thunder Men Fifth at Ray Bullock Invitational

UPLAND, IND.-- The Trine men's cross country team placed fifth in the Ray Bullock Invitational, held Friday at Taylor University.

Thunder runners earned the team 144 points in the event. The team combined for an average time of 29:02 on the 8-K course. Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) placed 11th overall to account for the highest finish for Trine in the event. Schaaf turned in a time of 27:40, averaging a 5:33 mile. Ohio Northern took home the team overall title with a score of 23 points. The Polar Bears placed five runners in the top 10 in the race.

Robert Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) turned in a strong 27:47 time in his first collegiate-8K race. Duke's time was good enough for 14th-place.

Freshmen Cody Verhey (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville), Collin Elek (Osceola, Ind./Penn) and Zachary Phillips (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) rounded out Trine's top five. Verhey came in best among the trio, with a time of 29:32.

The Thunder will return to action Saturday, Sep. 19 when they head to the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
