Schaaf Named MIAA Runner of the Week

FREELAND, MICH.-- Trine's Adam Schaaf has been named the MIAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) finished 12th among 150 runners in the "Small States" Division at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championship, held Friday evening at Purdue University. The sophomore turned in a time of 26:44.9 on the 8K course. The time marked a 56-second improvement from his previous-best 8K race this season, and was a new career-best. His performance helped the Thunder to a ninth-place finish. Schaaf is being honored as Runner of the Week for the first time in his Trine career.

Schaaf has been among Trine's top runners in each of the team's three races this season. He began the year by combining with Austin Ganger (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) to win the Manchester University Hokum Karem, a race that featured pairs of runners alternating laps on a one-mile course for a distance of four miles. Schaaf was also Trine's top runner at Taylor University's Ray Bullock Invitational, finishing 11th overall.

Trine returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 27 at the MIAA Jamboree at Kalamazoo. The race is slated to get underway at 11 a.m.
