KALAMAZOO, MICH.-- The Trine men's cross country team placed fourth in the MIAA Jamboree, held Saturday at Kalamazoo College.
The Thunder earned a team total of 133 points for their first top-four finish in the Jamboree since placing second in 2007. Leading the way for Trine was Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind./Eastern), who placed fifth overall with an 8K time of 26:22. The reigning MIAA Runner of the Week topped his previous-best 8K time by 22 seconds. Led by four top-10 finishers, Calvin finished at the top of the Jamboree field with 29 points. Zac Nowicki finished first with a time of 25:35. The Jamboree counts one-third towards the MIAA Championship.
Robert Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind./Eastern) improved upon his previous-best time by 18 seconds to finish in 27:25, earning the Thunder 21 points. Zach Phillips (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) improved his time by 32 seconds, finishing third among Trine runners in 28:17.
Cody Verhey (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind./West Noble) rounded out Trine's top five. Mast was 50 seconds better than his previous 8K race.
All of Trine's top five finishers were underclassmen, including freshmen Duke, Phillips and Verhey.
