ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine cross country teams have announced their 2016 race schedule, with the first race scheduled to be run two months from today.
For the third-straight season, the Thunder open its race schedule with a performance in the Manchester University Hokum Karem. This year's race is slated for Thursday, Sep. 1. The race consists of pairs of runners alternating one-mile laps over a distance of eight miles, with each runner completing four miles. The Trine men have finished first each of the past two years.
The Hokum Karem is part of two-straight evening meets to start the season. The second competition date of the fall sees the Thunder compete in Indiana Wesleyan's Twilight Classic on Sep. 9.
Following a week off from competition, Trine competes in the first of two MIAA races of the fall. This year's MIAA Jamboree will be hosted by Alma on Sep. 24 at Pine River Country Club. The results of the Jamboree count one-third towards the final conference standings.
The MIAA Championship race is slated for Oct. 29 and will be hosted by Albion. Last year, each Thunder team notched its best performance as a member of the conference. Trine's men's team placed third in the conference, while the women tied for fourth behind an All-MIAA effort from Kyla Binfet (West Yellowstone, Mont. / West Yellowstone).
Sandwiched between the two conference meets are a pair of additional races. The Thunder will travel to the Louisville Cross Country Classic, one of the largest cross country events in the nation. The teams will also compete in the Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin.
The season concludes with the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, scheduled for Nov. 12. Any Trine performers to qualify would then advance to the NCAA Division III National Championship meet.
