FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Adam Schaaf has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) placed sixth in Indiana Wesleyan University's Twilight Invitational Friday to help lead the Thunder to a fourth-place finish. Schaaf ran a time of 26:37.4 on the 8K course to finish as the top Division III performer in a field made up mostly of NAIA competitors. He averaged a 5:21.14 mile pace. This is the second time Schaaf has been honored as Runner of the Week in his career.
An All-MIAA First Team performer in 2014, Schaaf is off to a strong start to the 2016 campaign. In addition to his performance at IWU, Schaaf teamed with Kody Snyder (Burnettsville, Ind. / Twin Lakes) to finish second in Manchester University's Hokum Karem. He ran a 4:52 clip over the course of his final mile. His performances helped the Thunder win the event for the third-straight year.
Schaaf and the Thunder will return to competition with the first MIAA race of the season Saturday, Sep. 24. Trine competes in the MIAA Jamboree, hosted by Alma, with the men's race slated for 11 a.m.
