Men's Cross Country Team Places Fourth in Jamboree

ALMA, Mich. -- The Trine men's cross country team placed fourth in the MIAA Jamboree, hosted by Alma College at Pine River Country Club.

Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) led the Thunder with a sixth-place finish, crossing the finish line in 25:48.2. That time was a season-best for the senior in the 8K. With his performance, Schaaf is poised to contend for a second career All-MIAA honor at the MIAA Championship. Paced by Schaaf, Trine's top five runners scored 100 points- just four points behind third-place Hope.

Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) and Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind. / West Noble) earned the Thunder 17 and 18 respectively in finishing back-to-back. Duke finished in a personal-best 26:38.7, while Mast was just behind with a season-best time of 26:39.6.

Rounding out Trine's top five was Collin Elek (Osceola, Ind. / Penn) and Jonathan Phillips (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer). Elek's time of 27:03.7 earned the Thunder 28 points, while Phillips claimed 31 points with his 27:15.19 time.

The results of the MIAA Jamboree count one-third towards the final MIAA standings. The MIAA Championship will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 at Albion College.

Trine's next race will come Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, one of the largest cross country meets in the nation.
