Men's Cross Country Places 11th in Inter-Regional Rumble

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Trine men's cross country team placed 11th in the Inter-Regional Rumble, held Saturday at Oberlin College.

Thunder runners combined to score the team 307 points, which placed Trine three points out of a top-10 finish. The varsity men's 8K race featured 278 runners from 32 schools. Thunder runners combined to average a season-best time of 26:10. Trine was the highest finisher among the five MIAA teams competing in the race.

Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) paced the Thunder with a 22nd-place finish. The senior ran a season-best time of 25:17.5, just three seconds slower than his career-best in the 8K. His average mile time was 5:05.3. 

Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern), Garrett Benedict (Greenfield, Ind. / Greenfield Central) and Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind. / West Noble) to claim the next three spots for Trine runners. Duke's time of 26:14.4 represented a career-best. Mast's time of 26:19.3 set a new career-best by 20 seconds.

Rounding out Trine's scroing runners were Kody Snyder (Burnettsville, Ind. / Twin Lakes) and Jordan Zamarron (Ionia, Mich. / Ionia), who each crossed the finish line in 26:38.2. Snyder's time was a season-best.

Additional Thunder runners competed in the varsity and open races. Villis Vuskalns (Indianapolis, Ind. / Beech Grove) led the team's runners competing in the open race with a personal-best time of 27:29.3 to place 19th.

The Inter-Regional Rumble was Trine's final tune-up before the MIAA Championships. The Thunder will be looking to move up from its fourth-place finish in the MIAA Jamboree, which counts one-third towards the final conference standings.

The MIAA Men's Cross Country Championship race will take place Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon on the campus of Albion College.
