HOLLAND, Mich. -- The Trine men's cross country team placed 14th in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, held Saturday at West Ottawa Golf Club.
Thunder runners combined to earn the team 393 points. Adam Schaaf (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) paced Trine with a 25th-place finish, the highest individual finish on record for any Thunder cross country runner in a Regional race since 2007. Trine runners averaged a time of 26:26.5 on the 8K course. The Great Lakes Regional featured 249 runners representing 36 teams.
Schaaf ran a time of 25:28.6 to finish as the top Thunder runner in his final collegiate cross country race. The two-time All-MIAA First Team performer was the team's top performer in two Regional races in his career. Schaaf's finish represented the third-best 8K time of his collegiate career.
Lewis Duke (Greentown, Ind. / Eastern) and Nicholas Zak (St. John, Ind. / Hanover Central) finished four seconds apart to become the next two Trine runners to cross the finish line. Duke completed the race in 26:26.4, while Zak's time of 26:30.1 was a new personal-best.
Aaron Mast (Ligonier, Ind. / West Noble) and Jordan Zamarron (Ionia, Mich. / Ionia) rounded out the top five for the Thunder. Mast totaled a time of 26:41.8 in his final collegiate race. Zamarron finished with a time of 27:05.2. Kody Snyder (Burnettsville, Ind. / Twin Lakes) and Jonathan Phillips (Royal Center, Ind. / Pioneer) also competed for Trine.

The Great Lakes Regional performance rounded out the 2016 season for the Thunder. Trine placed third in the MIAA for the second straight season.
