FULLER NAMED CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

ANGOLA, Ind. - Trine University softball pitcher, sophomore Bree Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District ® Softball Team. Fuller becomes the first player in program history to be honored as an Academic All-District selection.

An exercise science major, Fuller currently holds a 3.88 grade point average. The righthander has stepped up in her second season for the No. 2 ranked Thunder with a 14-1 record, including getting the win in the MIAA Tournament championship game. In the circle, Fuller currently leads the Trine pitching staff with 119 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings. Fuller is also tied for the team lead with five shutouts, which ranks 50th in Division III. Batters are hitting just .155 off Fuller who has an ERA of 1.38 while also recording a save.

Fuller was one of two MIAA players selected to an All-District team, and the only MIAA representative amongst the 12 selected from District 7 which consists of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. She was also one of three sophomores honored. Trine’s last Capital One Academic All-District ® selection came in 2011 as wrestler Elias Larson was named an At-Large Second Team honoree.

The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District ® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

The Academic All-District ® teams include eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America ® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ®Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
