Softball Ranks Among Nation's Leaders

ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine softball team ranks near the top of several NCAA statistical categories and has several individuals that rank among the nation's best.

The Thunder rank 10th in the nation in scoring, averaging 9.09 runs per contest. Trine has scored 10 or more runs in six games, including each of their last three. The Thunder's .577 slugging percentage ranks 13th in the nation. Six Thunder players averaging over three plate appearances a game are slugging over .500, led by Carly Searles' (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) .868 clip.

Trine also holds top 20 rankings in doubles per game (19th) and stolen bases per game (20th). Rachel Harris (Uniontown, Ohio/Hoover) has five doubles to lead the team. The Thunder are averaging 2.18 doubles per game. Searles' 10 steals have paced Trine to averaging 2.36 steals per contest.

Individually, Searles ranks fifth in the nation with five triples. That mark places her 18th in triples her game. Her ability to get on base on set the table for the rest of the Thunder lineup has led to Searles ranking 26th in the nation in runs per game (1.64).

In the circle, Bree Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) ranks among the nation's leaders in strikeouts. The junior's 12.2 strikeouts per seven innings ranks fifth in the nation. She is 18th overall in strikeouts with 54, and is coming off back-to-back shutout victories.

The latest NFCA Top 25 Poll has Trine ranked 13th in the nation. The Thunder return to action this Saturday against DePauw at 1:00 p.m. A game location has yet to be determined.
