Clark, Fuller named MIAA Players of the Week

ROYAL, OAK, MICH.-- Trine softball duo Kaitlyn Clark and Bree Fuller have swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central) was named Player of the Week, while Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Both are being honored as Player of the Week by the MIAA for the first time in their Trine careers. The duo keyed a doubleheader sweep of conference-foe Olivet, who had won 13-of-15 games entering Saturday's doubleheader. The fifth-ranked Thunder won game one 4-2, before taking game two 9-0 in five innings. The award honors the duo for games played through Saturday, Apr. 5.

Clark went 6-for-7 at the plate, homered, stole two bases, and drove in four runs in leading the Thunder to the sweep of Olivet in Trine's conference opener Saturday. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with a home run in the 4-2 victory in game one, and followed that up with a perfect 4-for-4, three RBI performance in game two.

Clark leads the MIAA in homers (9) and RBI's (33). She ranks second in the league in runs (25), hits (29), slugging percentage (.899), total bases (62) and extra-base hits (15). As of the most-recent NCAA Statistics report released Mar. 30, the outfielder ranked eighth in the nation in homer runs.

Fuller tossed a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out 10 in leading Trine to the 4-2 game one victory over Olivet. The 10-strikeout performance marked the sixth time the junor has recorded double-digit strikeouts in a game this season. The win moved her into sixth on Trine's all-time wins list. Her next win will move Fuller into a tie for fifth in school-history.

Fuller leads the MIAA in innings pitched (69), wins (11), strikeouts (95) and strikeout rate (9.64/seven innings). As of the last NCAA Statistics report released Mar. 30, Fuller ranks 16th in the nation in strikeouts and 17th in strikeouts per seven innings. She sports a gaudy strikeout-to-walk ratio of 95-to-12.

Trine is 20-1 on the season and ranked fifth in the nation by the NFCA. The Thunder have won 19-consecutive games, which is the second-longest winning-streak in school-history.

Trine returns to action this Wednesday, Apr. 9 when they travel to Alma for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
