Thunder Sweep Adrian on Senior Day

ANGOLA, IND.-- The 5th-ranked Trine softball team shut out Adrian twice to earn the sweep over the Bulldogs on Senior Day at Trine University.

The Thunder took game one 5-0, before grinding out a 1-0 victory in the game two pitcher's duel. Bree Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) and Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lake Wood) combined to surrender just five hits and strike out 16 batters on the afternoon. Catherine Porter (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Canton) came up with key hits in each end of the doubleheader and finished with three hits and three RBI's. Porter has a five-game hitting-streak. The wins extend Trine's school-record winning-streak to 23 games. The Thunder have now won 38-consecutive MIAA contests, the second longest streak in conference history. Trine improves to 24-1 overall, 8-0 in the MIAA. Adrian falls to 9-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The team honored seniors Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering), Jillian Craig (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), Jamie Lydick (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and Haleigh Daniels (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) following the games.

Game One: Trine 5, Adrian 0

Fuller fired a two-hit shutout and the Thunder got some timely hitting early to earn the victory.

The two hits allowed by Fuller were the only two baserunners the junior allowed on the afternoon. The junior struck out 12 to win her 13th-straight decision and improve to 13-1 on the season. Fuller has struck out 25 over her last two starts.

Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central) got the Thunder on the board in the first, singling home Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) to make the score 1-0. Clark extended her hitting-streak to 15 games with hits in each game of the doubleheader.

Daniels knocked home a run with her 32nd-career double in the second inning. That total ranks third in Trine history.

The Thunder tacked on three runs in the third. Schnarr plated a run with a groundout before Porter split the right-center gap for a two-run single to make the score 5-0.

Porter and Searles each finished with two hits in the game.

Game Two: Trine 1, Adrian 0

Porter came through with a big hit, while Fuller and Robles shut down the Bulldog bats to give the Thunder the sweep.

Robles continued her strong work of late in the circle, with 6.1 innings of three-hit ball. She struck out three, and retired the first 12 batters of the game in order. Robles has a 1.20 ERA over her last four starts. She improved her record to 6-0 on the season.

Trine put two runners on base following errors in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Porter singled through the middle for the only run the Thunder would need.

Fuller came on to work the final 0.2 innings and record the save, her second of the season.

With hits in each game, Leah Hall (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) extended her hitting-streak to 10 games.

Trine returns to action this Tuesday, Apr. 15 when they host Hope at 3:30 p.m.
