ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- For the second-consecutive week, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine's Bree Fuller the league's Pitcher of the Week.
Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) was nearly unhittable in five appearances last week, as she yielded just one run on six hits in 20.1 innings pitched. She struck out 33 batters on her way to picking up three victories and two saves. The junior started her week with four hitless innings in an 8-0 win over Kalamazoo. She followed that with a three-hit, 13-strikeout effort in a victory over Alma. Fuller came on in relief to get the final five outs of game two to earn the sweep over the Scots. Capping off the week was a two-hit, 12-strikeout shutout performance and a two-out save in a sweep of Adrian. Fuller is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and in her career.
Fuller leads the MIAA in strikeouts with 123. Her strikeout rate of 10.09 K/7 also leads the league. The junior is 13-1 with a 1.72 ERA this season. As of the NCAA Statistics report released Apr. 6, Fuller ranked 15th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings, and 17th in both strikeouts and victories.
The Trine softball team is ranked 5th in the nation by the NFCA. The Thunder are 24-1 overall and riding a school-record 23-game winning-streak. Trine has won 38-straight MIAA regular-season games.
Trine is scheduled to return to action Tuesday, Apr. 15 when they will host Hope at 3:30 p.m.
