Searles, Fuller Named MIAA Players of the Week

ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Trine outfielder Carly Searles its Position Player of the Week and Trine righthander Bree Fuller its Pitcher of the Week.

Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) led all hitters with a .650 batting average (13-for-20) in the MIAA Tournament this past week. Her efforts included five triples, seven runs scored and five RBI's as she led the Thunder to the MIAA tournament championship. She capped off the tournament with a 3-for-4 performance, two runs scored and two RBIs in Trine's 8-1 victory over Hope that clinched the Thunder's sixth MIAA tournament title in eight years. Searles is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career.

Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) won three straight starts as she led Trine back from the loser's bracket to the MIAA tournament championship. The junior allowed five runs in 19 innings pitched and struck out 22 batters for the tournament. She threw three-hit complete games in wins over Olivet, 12-1, and Calvin, 10-1. Fuller has been the Pitcher of the Week an unprecedented five-consecutive weeks this season and is being honored for the fifth time in her career.

Trine will host the NCAA® Division III Angola Regional Championship Central this weekend. The Thunder will face Washington & Jefferson this Friday at 3:30 p.m. The four-team Regional opens with Muskingum taking on DePauw at 1:00 p.m.

The winner of the Angola Regional advances to the Super-Regionals to face the winner of the Emory Regional at a site yet to be determined.
