Thunder Place Eight on All-MIAA Teams

ROYAL OAK, MICH.-- Eight Trine players were named to the All-MIAA Softball team, which was announced by the conference Thursday.

Bree Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) headlines the Thunder selections. The junior was named the MIAA Most Valuable Pitcher and earned First-Team All-MIAA honors. Outfielders Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central) and Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) each earned First-Team All-MIAA honors as well for Trine. Second-Team selections included shortstop Haleigh Daniels (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton), outfielder Leah Hall (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central), designated player Rachel Harris (Uniontown, Ohio/Hoover), third baseman Kendra Marshall (Leesburg, Ind./Warsaw) and pitcher Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood). Trine led all teams with eight teams selected to the all-conference teams.

Fuller won an unprecedented five MIAA Pitcher of the Week awards this season on her way to being named the conference's Most Valuable Pitcher. The junior threw the first perfect game in Trine history and tossed a no-hitter to highlight her 2014 regular-season campaign. Fuller dominated MIAA-hitters to the tune of an 0.52 ERA and 11.61 K/7 rate during conference play. Overall, she led the conference in wins (21), strikeouts (201) and strikeouts per seven innings (10.42). She ranks eighth in the nation in strikeouts and seventh in strikeouts per seven innings.

Searles ranked among the NCAA's leaders in numerous categories, leading the nation with 15 triples and ranking third in runs per game (1.50), 18th in batting average (.497) and 23rd in stolen bases per game (0.65). If the season concluded today, her batting would be a school-record. The junior became Trine's all-time leader in hits and steals this season. The center fielder also led the MIAA in hits, runs scored, and on-base percentage. She is the reigning MIAA Player of the Week after hitting .650 (13-of-20) in the MIAA Tournament.

Clark put up career numbers acorss the board in her sophomore campaign. The corner outfielder ranked sixth in the nation with 14 home runs (eighth in home runs per game). Clark knocked in 53 runs for a 1.33 per game rate that ranked 11th in the nation. She also led the conference with an .809 slugging percentage and 26 extra-base hits. Clark won an MIAA Player of the Week award and had a 19-game hitting-streak during the regular-season.

Daniels headlines the Second-Team All-MIAA selections for the Thunder. The senior capped her Trine career with a solid campaign acrosse the board, batting .404 with three home runs, 28 RBI's and a .579 slugging percentage. Daniels led all MIAA shortstops in slugging, doubles, and hits. She is third on Trine's all-time career-list with 36 doubles and has driven in 94 runs in her career. Daniels won Trine's Chery L. Coons Award for Oustanding Senior Female Athlete.

Harris provided Trine with another slugger in the middle of the lineup from the cleanup spot. The junior ranked third in the conference with eight home runs and second in the conference with 42 RBI's. Harris also ranked second in the league in walks (23), third in slugging percentage (.672), tied for third in doubles (11), and fifth in on-base percentage (.483). She filled the designated player role in the Trine lineup.

Hall saw time at both corner outfield positions to earn the first All-MIAA recognition of her Trine career. The junior tied for seventh in the conference with four home runs and 10 steals, while her 45 hits ranked eighth in the league. Hall batted .354 with a .411 on-base percentage and a .472 slugging percentage, driving in 26 runs. She had a 15-game hitting-streak this season.

Marshall earns Second-Team All-MIAA honors in her first season at Trine. The sophomore stepped right into the three-hole in the Thunder lineup and didn't miss a beat, batting .392 with two home runs and ranking third in the conference with 37 RBI's. She also tied for third in the league with 11 doubles. The third-baseman hit the first two home runs of her Thunder career in the MIAA Tournament.

Robles rounds out Trine's All-MIAA selections. The sophomore stepped into a larger role in the starting rotation this season and responded with a solid campaign. Robles ranked second in the MIAA in striking out 7.95 hitters per seven innings and third with a 1.32 ERA. She finished a 10-2 record. Robles picked up the win as Trine clinched the MIAA Tournament Championship and an automatic-berth in the NCAA Regionals last weekend.

Trine will host the NCAA® Division III Angola Regional Championship this weekend. The Thunder open the tournament against Washington &  Jefferson at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.
