Trine Shuts Out Two in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla.-- Trine shut out a pair of opponents Thursday afternoon in the Dot Richardson Spring Games.

The sixth-ranked Thunder defeated Muhlenberg 7-0, before the bats broke out in a big way to earn a 14-0 victory over Cabrini in game two. Bree Fuller (Hubbardston, Mich./Fulton) and Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) each tossed shutouts to lead a dominant Trine pitching effort. Thunder pitchers have not allowed an earned run in the last 25.2 innings, dating back to the fourth inning of Tuesday's game against Roanoke. Fuller's shutout moved her into second on Trine's all-time last. The Thunder improved to 7-1 on the season.

Rachel Harris (Uniontown, Ohio/Hoover), Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central) and Amy Newell (Three Rivers, Mich./Three Rivers) all homered to provide some of the offensive firepower. Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) stole three bases to become the first player in school history to top 100 career steals.

Game One: Trine 7, Muhlenberg 0

Fuller fired a two-hitter, while Clark and Newell homered to highlight the offensive effort.

The Thunder wasted no time striking first, taking advantage of an error for two unearned runs before Rachell Noble (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) plated a run with an RBI-single. Noble picked up RBIs in each of the first two at-bats of her collegiate career.

Searles scored on another Mule error in the second. Clark followed a two-run bomb for her first homer of the season. The homer pulled the junior into a tie for fifth on Trine's all-time list with 22 career jacks.

Newell added a solo homer in the fourth for her second home run of the season.

Fuller struck out nine and walked three as she earned the 13th shutout of her Trine career and improved to 4-0 on the season.

Game Two: Trine 14, Cabrini 0

The Thunder scored in all but the first inning, while Robles continued Trine's run of dominant pitching with another shutout.

Every Trine starter got in the hit column and six different players drove in runs in the effort. Harris slammed a three-run homer to give Trine a 5-0 advantage in the fourth. The homer was the senior's second of the season.

Leah Hall (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) and Newell each knocked in two runs as part of an eight-run sixth that led to the six-inning run-rule shortened victory. The Thunder scored three runs on errors in the inning, while Searles added an RBI. Searles is now third in school-history with 117 career RBIs.

Kaylee Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Edison) and Emily McCarty (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) each added RBIs for Trine.

Robles fired six shutout innings, surrendering three hits and striking out eight. The junior has walked just one batter while striking out 35 in 26 innings this season.

Trine continues play in the Dot Richardson Spring Games tomorrow with games against Lebanon Valley and Webster.
