Thunder Defeat DePauw; Game Two Suspended

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The seventh-ranked Trine softball team earned a 10-0 victory over no. 25 DePauw Monday afternoon at DePauw Tigers Field.

The Thunder earned the game one victory and held a 13-4 heading into the top of the fifth inning of game two before the game was suspended due to darkness. Per NCAA rules, game two is not considered an official game. For a game to be considered offical, five full innings must be completed. The two teams will attempt to complete the game later this season. Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) homered, tripled and knocked in two runs, while Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering) notched two hits and a pair of RBIs. Trine improved to 12-1 on the season. DePauw fell to 7-4 overall.

Searles set the tone immediately in the first at-bat of the game, launching a 2-2 pitch over the right-center field wall to make the score 1-0. Searles picked up Trine's second RBI in the second inning, as her 45th-career triple scored Dani Kirchner (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) to make the score 2-0.

Amy Newell (Three Rivers, Mich./Three Rivers) continued her strong start to the season, smacking a solo homer as part of a two-run fourth. Newell now has four home runs on the year. Kendra Marshall (Leesburg, Ind./Warsaw) added an RBI-double in the inning.

The Thunder added two more in the fifth, with one run scoring on a wild pitch and the other on an infield single off the bat of Rachel Harris (Uniontown, Ohio/Hoover).

A four-run sixth put the game out of reach. Schnarr knocked in two runs with a double, and Marshall added a sac fly in the inning.

Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) picked up her third shutout of the season, going the distance while scattering six hits and four walks. The junior struck out three to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Trine returns to action this Wednesday, Mar. 18 when they travel to Bluffton for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
