Thunder Complete Sweep of Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich.-- Trine completed the series sweep of Adrian with a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs Monday evening at AC Softball Field.

The Thunder took game one yesterday, 7-6, before weather forced game two to today. Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) was in control on the mound, tossing her fifth complete game shutout of the season. Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn./Wilson Central) extended her hitting-streak to six games with an RBI-double. Trine has now won 48-consecutive MIAA regular-season games, extending their conference record. The Thunder have won 13-straight to improve to 18-1 on the season. Adrian falls to 10-8 overall, 0-2 in conference play.

The two teams traded zeroes until Trine broke through in the bottom of the third. Carly Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) doubled with one out, then Clark traded places with Searles with a double of her own her to make the score 1-0. Amy Newell (Three Rivers, Mich./Three Rivers) followed with an RBI-single to make the score 2-0.

The Thunder added a run in the fourth when a double by Emily McCarty (Mattawan, Mich./Mattawan) was followed by a run-scoring double by Kendra Marshall to make the score 3-0.

Robles allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out nine to earn the victory and improve to 9-0 on the year. The junior leads the MIAA in innings pitched and strikeouts. She held an Adrian lineup that entered the game batting .341 on the season in check.
