FREELAND, Mich.-- Trine's Carly Searles was named the MIAA Softball Position Player of the Week and Justine Robles earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.
Searles (Levering, Mich./Petoskey) went a perfect 14-for-14 at the plate and reached base in all 16 of her plate appearances in leading the Thunder to a 4-0 week. The senior scored 11 runs, homered and knocked in six runs on the week. She went 7-for-7 with a home run, triple, two doubles and five RBIs in Saturday's sweep of Albion. Searles' active streak of 15-consecutive at-bats with a hit is tied for the second-longest streak in NCAA history, two short of the record of 17. She is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in her career.
A two-time All-American, Searles is threatening to become collegiate softball's all-time leader in career triples. Searles has 47 career triples, a Division-III record and four shy of tying Tricia Popowski's (South Carolina, 1988-91) all-time record of 51. Searles leads the MIAA in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits, triples and stolen bases.
Robles (Long Beach, Calif./Lakewood) picked up a pair of wins, holding opponents to just four hits in nine innings of work. The junior posted a 0.78 ERA and struck out nine batters. Robles fired a two-hit shutout in six innings of work as Trine picked up a 10-0 victory over Olivet. The shutout was Robles' sixth of the season, which tied a team record. She is being honored as Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row and the second time in her career.
Robles has followed up a solid sophomore campaign with an even better season this year. The junior leads the MIAA in wins, shutouts and strikeouts. She ranks second in the conference in innings pitched, ERA and complete games.
Trine hosts Alma for a key MIAA doubleheader tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The Thunder and Scots are seperated by just one game in the conference standings. Trine is 11-1 and in first-place in the MIAA, while Alma is tied for second with a 10-2 league mark.
