Fox named to NFCA Player of the Year Watch List

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-- Trine's Kaylee Fox has been named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III Player of the Year watch list.

Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Edison) is one of 50 players from around the nation named to the inaugural player of the year award watch list. Last season, Fox earned NFCA Division III All-America honors at an at-large position on the third team. The watch list is a collaborative effort between the NFCA Division III Head Coaches and All-America committees. The list will subsequently be cut to 25, 10 and then the three finalists that will vie for the award. The list will be adjusted to assure the best players during the season are considered, with the eventual winner coming from the group of 25.

Fox set a Trine freshman record with 16 home runs last year, a mark that ranked third in the nation. She also ranked 11th in the nation with 55 RBIs. Fox batted .405 with a .454 on-base percentage and .797 slugging percentage. She was also named to the All-MIAA First Team and to the Greencastle Regional All-Tournament team last spring.

This season, Fox is batting .286 and slugging .429 over Trine's first eight games. The sophomore has belted one home run, driven in six runs and walked twice in 30 plate appearances.

Trine enters this weekend's NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic with a 4-4 overall record. The Thunder open bracket play today with games against NCAA postseason participants Eastern Connecticut State and No. 7 East Texas Baptist.
